A workshop to accompany the Herts Visual Arts Textile exhibition ‘What Lies Beneath’ at Southern maltings in ware.
Tapestry is one of the oldest forms of woven textiles. Traditionally woven in silk wool and linen the techniques used have remained the same for centuries. A weft faced weave, tapestry is often used to create imagery.
In this workshop you will learn techniques while creating a landscape inspired piece. I will guide you through creating simple shapes using interlocks, hatching, and angling, finishing off with a blended sky. A beautiful weft faced weaving to give you a taste of a few woven tapestry techniques.
The workshop is suitable for beginner weavers and those who enjoy weaving and would like to further their skills.
Weaving looms will be prepared in advance to allow a full session of weaving. All materials and equipment will be provided and are included in the cost of the workshop.
