Pulled Warp Weaving Workshop
7th December 10am-12.30pm £30
The Broadway Gallery, 2 The Arcade Letchworth, SG6 3ES
Learn how to create 3D form from a flat weave using pulled warp processes to create a corset or Spriella inspired woven piece.
In this workshop we will explore how to create 3D form using tapestry weaving techniques to produce corset and Spirella inspired shapes, linked to my artwork in the Spirella Unbound exhibition.
During the workshop you will weave a 2D shape following your chosen pattern, which once complete will be finished by pulling the warps to create a small three-dimensional piece, playing with the idea of pulling the laces to tighten a corset.
Don’t know your warp from your weft, don’t worry no previous weaving skills are required. This workshop is suitable for adults and accompanied children aged 14 and over.
Workshop places are limited and need to be booked in advance.
Spirella Unbound is an exhibition of textile art by the Herts Visual Arts Textile Group inspired by the rich history of the Spirella Company of Great Britain, founded in Letchworth Garden City in 1909.
The exhibition is being held at the Broadway Gallery in Letchworth from November 28th – December 21st and is open to visit during the Broadway Galleries usual opening hours.
My woven artwork in the exhibition is inspired by the Spirella Company’s role in making Irvin parachutes during the 2nd World War and is created using woven pulled warp techniques to make a 3 dimensional artwork.
