A Taste of Tapestry
Join me at the North Hertfordshire Museum in Hitchin for an immersive introduction to tapestry weaving, one of the oldest and most enduring forms of textile art. While traditionally created in silk, linen and wool, the techniques of weaving shape and form have remained unchanged for centuries.

Discover the meditative rhythms of the loom. In this workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of woven tapestry while creating your own small, landscape-inspired textile piece.
I will guide you through the process of building structure and image, from forming geometric shapes to blending subtle tones to create a soft, woven sky. With looms pre-warped and ready to weave, you can focus on the creative process.

Design: Select your own palette from a wide variety of coloured wools.

Craft: Learn essential tapestry techniques including interlocks, hatching, angling, and colour blending.

Create: Produce a weft-faced mini tapestry to take home.
Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to further develop your existing weaving skills, this workshop offers a relaxed and inspiring space to explore your creativity.
Note: This workshop is for adults and ages 16+. We will take a 30-minute break for lunch; please feel free to bring your own lunch or buy from the Museum’s cafe, where you can receive a 10% discount by showing your workshop ticket.
